Child and Adolescent Therapy
What is Child and Adolescent Therapy?
At MS Psychology Centre, we support children and adolescents in understanding what they’re going through, expressing their emotions, and building self-confidence. We create a space where they feel heard, respected, and supported.
We use age-appropriate tools such as play, drawing, and creative expression—always grounded in scientific evidence and guided by a respectful approach. Our work is based on developmental psychology, attachment theory, and techniques that address emotional, behavioural, and cognitive aspects.
We also offer psychological and neuropsychological assessments to better guide the support process—from attention, memory, and learning to emotional state and behaviour.
If your child is experiencing emotional, behavioural, or adjustment difficulties, early psychological intervention can be key to supporting their development and well-being. Our work with children and adolescents is tailored to their stage of growth, using tools appropriate to their age and specific needs.
- We create a safe, supportive, and trusting space through play.
- We actively involve parents through guidance and follow-up sessions.
- We collaborate with teachers and schools when it is beneficial.
- We use specific tools such as EMDR therapy adapted for children and approaches based on attachment theory.
Creative and Developmental Approach
We use play, drawing, and other forms of expression to help children communicate their feelings naturally, in a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate environment.
Professional and Personalised Intervention
We adapt to the pace and needs of each child or adolescent, working with evidence-based models such as attachment theory, cognitive-behavioural therapy, developmental psychology, and specific techniques like EMDR and play therapy.
Collaborative Work with Family and School
We maintain ongoing follow-up with families and, when helpful, coordinate with schools to ensure consistent support across all environments for the child or adolescent.
How can I tell if my child needs psychological support?
Sometimes, certain emotional or behavioural changes can be signs that a child or adolescent needs support. The issue doesn’t have to be severe—early intervention can make a significant difference.
Here are some signs to watch for:
- Sudden changes in mood or behaviour
- Difficulty at school or in relationships with others
- Difficulty managing emotions such as anxiety, sadness, or anger.
- Low self-esteem and insecurity
- Intense worries, fears, or regression in behaviours
- Sleep disturbances, eating issues, or loss of bladder/bowel control
- Recent challenging changes, such as parental separation, moving house, or bereavement.
Our sessions provide practical tools to support their development and well-being:
Emotional Regulation and Self-Esteem
We help them understand and manage their emotions, build self-esteem, and create a secure foundation for personal growth.
Age-Appropriate Intervention
We develop a personalised plan tailored to their developmental stage and specific needs.
Support in the School Environment
We collaborate with the school when necessary and support the academic process to reduce difficulties and improve performance.
Identification of Difficulties
We identify emotional, behavioural, or learning obstacles that may be interfering with their development.
Improvement of Social Skills
We promote better relationships with peers and adults by working on communication, empathy, and building healthy bonds.
